Alberta Fish & Game Association in full support of Alberta Hunting Heritage Act-Bill 201 04/29/08
Edmonton... Alberta's largest conservation group, the Alberta Fish & Game Association (AFGA), is pleased that the Government of Alberta has introduced the Alberta Hunting Heritage Act-Bill 201 in the Alberta Legislature and has passed second reading.
Bill 201 is more than just symbolic. It creates a statutory right to hunt, fish, and trap that can be defended in court. It will help secure the future of these time-honoured activities in Alberta.
The AFGA couldn't be happier that this very important piece of legislation will finally be enacted. AFGA 1st Vice President, Quentin Bochar initially drafted this paper over five years ago on behalf of AFGA and it was presented to four Ministers before one would take it forward. Mr. Leonard Mitzel (PC) MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat presented the bill with the full support of ASRD Minister Ted Morton.
This Bill will recognize Hunting, Fishing and Trapping as legitimate, rightful privileges under the protection of law and will serve us well in the future.
The Alberta Fish and Game Association is a not-for-profit volunteer organization proud to serve Albertans in the promotion of the wise use of our fish and wildlife resources and the conservation of their habitats. Celebrating its 100th anniversary the AFGA has been active since 1908 in working towards these goals. It has a province-wide membership of 17,000 individuals spread among 100+ Clubs.
